Note

The Reverend John Lathrop was an ancestor of Joseph Smith, one of the founders of the Mormon Church ‎(Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints)‎. He was imprisoned in England because his religious views were contrary to the practices and teachings of the Church Of England. His wife sought his release from prison for several years and she died shortly before his release from prison on the condition that he leave the country; and after his release, he emigrated to New England aboard theship Griffin in September 1634. The Reverend John Lathrop was an Anglican, and later became a Congregationalist minister.
